No Need for Battle In this day of wondrous things It’s so easy to be out-of-touch, What seems a miracle now Seconds later isn’t much. Trusting friends you came to know Leaving for better jobs out-of-town; Moving where the money is, Still pursuing that last cap and gown. This may test your sanity, Not knowing who and when to believe. Once they’ve tasted victory There’s ever the more need to achieve. “Why must it seem this way I ask, Fearing not whether you answer; If your reply agrees with me I see no need for battle. But if the answer is contrary, We will have our words, Followed by deeds ... not with gun and knife ... Until our shadows blend into one.” To reach goals one must contest The world around and in between; Fed by life’s legalized drugs Chased by a good dose of caffeine. The mind and body react To each "true" historical event; As the blood and brains are spilled We hear politicians lament. Can you and I bear the pain Of seeing our children at play, Knowing that in years to come Their lives will end with great dismay. “Why must it seem this way I ask, Fearing not whether you answer; If your reply agrees with me I see no need for battle. But if the answer is contrary, We will have our words, Followed by deeds ... not with gun and knife ... Until our shadows blend into one.” © Jaymista 2001 |
